Ordered and received two of these desks, shipped from Amazon via UPS.These desks arrived a day apart and the contents of both shipping boxes were absolutely mangled. The damage was so extensive that I couldn't even piece together one working desk from the good parts available.Desktops arrived scratched and with chunks taken out of them, the shelf and back-support were bent and their powder coats were destroyed.I contacted Safco customer support directly, as I saw that they are based in New Hope, MN. I am located only 30 minutes away, and hoped I might just be able to exchange on site - it was a long shot, but I didn't want to deal with the Amazon Return policy turn around, as the shipping boxes were destroyed beyond use.I spoke to a woman named Patty from Safco, who was probably the most helpful person I have ever spoken to. Apparently Safco values their customer, and she issued an order for two new desks to be delivered to my door. The packages were ordered to be inspected before loading, and then wrapped to a pallet so they will arrive safely. If nothing else, Safco deserves a five star rating for treating customers right and looking out for their brand image.EDIT:I have to say that I'm quite annoyed with this nonsense. The desk itself is exactly what you're looking at in the picture. Large work surface, locking castors on two of the wheel sets. Sturdy. Perfect for what I needed. The desk itself is of Excellent quality for the price paid, and as mentioned in my previous review, Safco's customer Service is better than anything I have ever seen. What I am utterly disgusted with is that after speaking to Safco directly about the damage to my first order, and patiently waiting for the new desks to arrive, I was let down to see that while the boxes were finally (mostly) in tact, there was still damage to the contents of BOTH desk boxes which was clearly CAUSED by the ratcheting straps (Not the aforementioned wrapping) that were used to secure the boxes to their shipping palate. The box had shoe prints DENTED into it, as if someone had jumped onto it. The places where the under shelf fits into the back support were completely bent inwards, and with such severity as to cause considerable warping in the entire shelf. Even with attempts made to remedy the damage done by the shipping straps with a towel and some rubberized vice-grips made the shelf BARELY able to fit into its required position, and I had to HAMMER the thing into place with a rubber mallet just to get it to fit. Bent, but functioning. From the parts of FOUR desks I was able to Frankenstein together a SINGLE desk which was pretty much undamaged save for a bit of hair-line scratching to the oak-side surface which we hadn't intended to use anyway as we favor the Mahogany side. I gave this desk to my fiancee. MY desk has a bent shelf, some damage to the seal on the Mahogany which is thankfully covered by my mouse pad, and a spot where the powder coating flaked off while I used rubberized vice grips to attempt to repair the damage shipping had done to the parts.I say again; the desk itself is fantastic. Customer Service is 100% hands down amazing. The box these desks get shipped in is absolute garbage - The quality of the cardboard does practically nothing to protect its contents, feeling more like several layers of pressed paper mache, and just barely strong enough to support the weight of the items inside. The 'padding' included was a literal single layer of 1/8th inch thick polyethylene packing foam sheeting (the kind used to wrap dishes and glasses in MANY layers for moving) laid between rather sharp metal edges and the apparently delicate desk surface. Under the desktop was a single piece of flimsy cardboard, thinner than the kind used to build the box it had more in common with two sheets of construction paper, which was protecting THAT side from more metal.I will be contacting Amazon to request a partial refund of these items, and if I can't get anything back from Amazon I will be contacting Safco directly.Until the quality of shipping materials is improved, and damage to product becomes rare instead of expected, I will not be giving another thought to Safco products. This desk was designed for use with a computer in mind as it's description suggests and does a damn good job.The bottom compartment is truly my favorite part(well all what I'm writing is my favorite part :)) as I'm able to put a power-strip underneath and connect all my peripherals thus having only one wire coming out of the desk! How's that for wire management! The surface area is just right. There's enough space for a multi-monitor setup, keyboard, drinks, laptop and external drives etc. All wires can come down through the middle and either to the left or right of the desk and into the middle compartment. The wheels are useful for moving around but I don't use them and it works just fine without them. In fact I think it's better without the wheels as it lowers the desk height just a tad more making it so that your elbows can comfortably sit on top of the desk without any sort of strain or tension. I use a low-back chair and a comfy foot rest with this desk and it feels great! For me the price was a bit high but still within an acceptable range. My real rating would be 4.5 and 4 seemed to low for this quality of a product so I'm giving it a 5. I'd recommend this desk to anyone looking for a great workstation desk you really can't go wrong with this desk unless you get one thats damaged.Nearly unheard of in prefab furniture, this desk is VERY easy to assemble. Parts total only 5 pieces and like 8 screws, 4 bolts. PROTIP: Get a stubby screwdriver for four of them. It's VERY compact width was the reason I got it and it's doing what I need it to do. Very sturdy, office quality materials. I'll be tightening screws soon but it seems like I have to shim the top so it doesn't have a slight wiggle to it. I guess it's how they keep it from being marred since the top is made to be reversible (dark wood light wood)with the removal of four little bolts. I like it but don't love it but am sure it will grow on me in time. At the very least it seems spacious compared to the one it replaces.Great desk. Very easy to assemble. The top is 1" thick and heavy but once this desk is assembled it is very easy to roll. The wheels lock well and keep the desk in place. I was able to attach my heavy, steel, dual monitor bracket and the monitors without worrying that the top would bow. The top has a recessed area to attach the monitor bracket to keep it from sticking out when you push the desk against the wall. The shelf below is useful for a few books and software; not really strong enough for much more. It's not very pretty for a home office but it sure is functional and worth the price I paid.Dont listen to the people who complain about storage, thats not the desks fault, its theirs. No duh, it doesnt have drawers, did you see any in the pics?! This desk goes together easy, only one person needed to put it together. The box didnt arrive damaged as some people noted, but it did have one bent piece I had to do a little reshaping on to fit things together. It really wasnt an issue or hard to do. This desk is built to last. Its one of the first desks I have paid for in a long long time now that will survive a move to another location and it fits through doors pretty easy (doesnt need taken apart to move like some desks that never go back together again).I will note, that I have had my foot slip a few times resulting in me kicking the shelf with my shin and obscenities followed, but it wasnt the desks fault (just probably not the best choice for classroom or office).Easy to assemble and has a nice, large working area. Unfortunately I ran into the seemingly common problem of the desk being damaged. Pictured is the most obvious bit of damage, which isn't too bad but is annoying. The second doesn't show as well, fortunately, as it's a bit of scraping an a dent on the right footing. It's a solid product if they could only get it in better packing.I wasn't aware that my near $300 discount for what I thought was new product, turned out to be a bargain for a bent and crushed desk. Granted new, but bent in any which way one could think. But for the deal and desperate need for a desk, I reshaped and pried everything back into place. Had a couple of chips on the desk as well but least now it is straight and solid. Can't really complain.Arived damaged.
