The lamp was easy to install on the wall behind my chair. Since my wall is wood, I screwed the mounting plate directly into it, rather than using the supplied plaster anchors. I bought it to illuminate the area of my desk where I read papers, and to illuminate papers propped against my monitor when I'm using them to work at my computer. The lamp is easy to direct between these places, and can be angled enough to avoid serious reflection off the screen. It can also be aimed at a picture that I enjoy. The only problem I've experienced, and why I give it 4 stars rather than 5, is that there is a ring of yellow light around the white central beam. When the light is aimed at documents propped against the monitor this ring is either noticeable on the top of the document or is visible on the monitor. On balance, I'm quite happy with my purchase.I bought two of these after doing extensive research. They are actually enjoyable. They never get hot, not even warm. Very important when doing summer evening reading. There was only one issue. I don't know how I missed it but the on/off switch is not on the light itself, like I thought, but rather on the piece that attaches to the wall. This makes it a bit cumbersome turning off. Plus there's a funky halo. Hard to describe but when reading, the light is a nice white light in the middle two thirds BUT the outermost third of the light is a hazy, almost distracting at times, yellow. I'd still buy these again as I've gotten use to the yellow halo. Of note, I mentioned it to my eye Dr. to make sure there wasn't something happening to my vision causing me to see the halo. Glad to say it has nothing to do with my vision!UPDATE JULY 2017: Still going strong with absolutely no issues at all. Adjustable neck is as tight as the day it was installed and the light just as bright with no flickers. I'd buy them again in a heartbeat! It is fine for spot reading, if this is what you only need. No lights gets really outside of 2 feet circle. The rest of the room is just dark. As long as you understand that you will only get good light for the area where you hold the book, it works very well. If you expect to lit the part of the room, you won't be happy. We returned ours as the light covered only one corner of the couch, nothing else. Good quality light for reading, easy for the eyes, contemporary, euro design. Limited in function.I bought a pair of these for bedside reading. They were easy to install and are well-made. I am pleased with the modern design, easy manipulation of the gooseneck and the position of the on-off switch. But I didn't expect that an LED lamp would be so bright! These lights are really overkill for bedside reading --- they are more like spotlights or floodlights! If they had a dimmer, they would really be more practical for this application. And they generate more heat than I expected.I really wanted to see this before I bought it because I had some reservations as to suitability for my use. Fortunately I felt confident buying from Amazon with the ability to return the lamp if I didn't like it. It works perfectly for me and I am fussy. The base is heavy enough and wide enough that stability on my rug is not an issue. The light is focused to illuminate a small area in my lap or a semi wide area further out. It is bright without being glaring. There was another lamp I had considered with a dimmer control and I would like to have had that feature on the lamp I chose, but I don't really miss it.I was a little surprised at the size (check the dimensions before ordering) when it arrived, but have grown to love everything about this light. If you're using this as a reading light, the yellow "halo" others have mentioned is only a factor if you're holding something closer than 10 inches to the lamp. The lamp provides a nice bright light and the flexible goose neck is fabulous. I often have it pointing straight up and the reflection off the white ceiling provides a wonderful indirect lighting to the room. I also can bend it way down close to the bed so it doesn't bother my sleeping husband when I'm reading. The look is sleek and stylish. This one's a winner!Very solid mechanical built and thorough finish. Not flawless though. After a year of use the electrical circuit failed . However friendly Adesso customer service shipped me a new lamp without any argument. The new lamp has been improved and user larger LED which is staying cooler. Suitable for more than just personal reading . Warm light, beam much wider and brighter than tiny Ikea or LENBO desk lamps. When we recently redecorated our bedroom, my husband and I wanted to replace our table lamps with wall lights for reading in bed. I ordered two of these lights and so far we are very happy with the purchase. We chose these because, at 8 watts, they are brighter than most LED wall lamps. They seem to very well made and are sleek and modern. They have a push-button switch on the front, instead of the cheap inline switch that a lot of wall lights have. They are flexible and can be positioned however you like, so one person's light won't disturb the other person. Furthermore, they will be much easier to keep dusted; they are small and out of the way, and they take up no nightstand space.
